October 15, 2018 - More Churchill and More Polar Bears (and foxes)

Today we had breakfast very early and headed out to the tundra before dawn.  The tundra drive itself is very interesting.  Very flat with lots of water everywhere.

Our driver was also a bit of a character.

In the distance we saw one of the rover "hotels" in a distance.

The rover has a large platform in back where we could observe the animals without having to do so through glass.  However, most of us didn't stay out very long as it was rather cold outside.

Animals we saw today were the arctic fox

and lots of birds.

Before reboarding our bus this evening we had to have our pictures taken besidethe Tundra Rover.

In the evening we stopped by the city center for a presentation on sled dogs.  The center was built for the community by the US military when they pulled out of the area.  The center includes the school, hospital, meeting rooms, child care and indoor play areas (among other things).  It is the heart of the community.
